Big Fish in a Small Pond

There has been a movement around many countries called the tiny house movement. I don’t know if you’ve heard of it but, people are deciding to have these tiny houses built, and then live in them. We’re talking 400 sq ft small. The question is, would you be able to live in a tiny house? Iv’e looked at some of these houses online, and seen the interiors of said buildings. I only saw one picture of s house that had two floors, so you’d be living in a one floor home. Now, I bet your like, “Yea I could do that, I’ve lived in an apartment before.” Think about this. If you currently have a wife/husband, and kids, Would you be able to live in a house like this. If you are single, or living alone, then I say go for it. It saves a TON of money on bills for electricity, water heating, and all that stuff. The whole point of the small house movement is to live a minimalist life. This sounds like a sweet deal to me, I mean, you don’t pay as much for housing, you have this amazing unique home, this sounds great to me, but would you be able to do this? That is today’s not so philosophical question!

P.S I have decided to post around 1 to two times a week. Look forward to the new posts every week!

Why do we Hate Mondays?

That’s the question of today. Why? I understand that people think Mondays are horrible because it’s the end of the weekend and we don’t want to go back to school or work (unless you love your job and or school). But, if you don’t like school or your job, then how are Mondays any different from any other weekday? I think people hate Mondays because it’s a stereotype. People think because everyone hates Monday, then they should too? What kind of logic is that?! I think someone along the lineMondays.blog.jpg said, ” You know what, I’m going to hate Mondays just because!” Then the guy next to him was like, ” Oh yeah, that’s a great idea!” After that it just spread. That’s right, you heard it from me first, Mondays are a stereotype. And now… The Not So Philosophical Question! Do you hate Mondays? If so, explain your reasoning. That’s All!

What is your hidden superpower?

Quiet Power.jpg I recently read a book called Quiet Power, by Susan Cain, which is a book about introversion. Now, a lot of you are probably thinking, What is introversion? Well, introversion is a personality trait where you react to stimulation more strongly than extroverts. Extroverts are the people who are the life of the party, the people who enjoy loud music, and the people who can make friends at the drop of a hat. Introverts are people who prefer to be reading a book or using their iPad on the couch.

I am an introvert myself and this book really helped me learn more about my personality. At school, people always ask me, Are you OK? They ask this because I’m quiet or just staring off into space while I’m thinking. I never understood why people thought I was angry or sad, when really I was perfectly fine. Susan’s book taught me that extroverts prefer to have stimulation at all times and do not need to “recharge their batteries” by having time alone.

In my school’s science fair, I did a project on personality. It was mainly focused on Minecraft players’ level of introversion or extroversion and their preferences for playing in creative or survival mode (see my Minecraft for Dummies post). In that project I learned a lot about introversion as well as extroversion, but this book, Quiet Power, really helped me understand myself even more than I already did. I learned that introversion is my superpower. In chapter 10, The Quiet Athlete, Susan talks about how introverts who play sports are able to practice hours on end alone, whereas extroverts need stimulation from people after a certain amount of time. I thought this really fit me because if I have the drive to do something, then I  can focus on it for long periods of time without interruptions. I play basketball by myself at our local school all the time to perfect my shot.

I love being introverted; one piece of advice I have for introverts is, don’t try and be someone you’re not. Embrace your introversion and you can do great things.

And now…. The Not So Philosophical Question! Do you think you are introverted? Take Susan Cain’s Quiet Revolution Personality Test to find out. Make sure to answer in the comment box! That’s all!

Fail!

Today was the USA v.s Belgium game in the 2014 FIFA World Cup and my mom went to work at  7:00 am so she could see the game. But it turns out that my dad didn’t record it. Shocker! Also Mexico is out so that means that Ochoa is no more. The only reason he lost is because in the 91 minute his defenseman  tripped Van Persie in the box with resulted in a penalty shot and that was the end of that and the Netherlands moved on to the Quarter finals. On a high note i got new goalie gloves today and after dinner I am going to play soccer with my mom. My soccer coach told me that I have to practice soccer everyday so before work my mom is going to take me before work everyday to play soccer. That’s all for now.

He Shoots AND I’TS A TERRIFIC SAVE BY ROBO!!!!!! Me Compared to FIFA World Cup Goalies

It was the second to last game of the season and we needed a win I was the goalie and i thought that i couldn’t contribute. How wrong was I. In the end of the second half we were down 2-0 and I got put in goal for the second and in the end I had 6 saves 2 were on breakaways. In the world cup G. Ochoa was the hero of the 0-0 tie with Brazil V.S Mexico. he had 6 saves also. His saves were better than mine but we both had good saves.

ImageHe allowed 0 goals and i allowed two so he is a lot better than me.

Here are some other good goalies in the world cup.

Here is goalie Julio Cesar of Brazil

Goalie Tim Howard of USA

These are 2 other good goalies in the world cup 2014. Bye!

Redstone Lessons With Robo – Part 1

Today I have a lot of time on my hands so I decided to write a blog post. Today’s topic: Minecraft. I recently started a new world for redstone. In case you are wondering what the heck is redstone it’s a item in Minecraft  that you use to make machines in Minecraft. I’ve been on this world very frequently making machines. Before I start telling you about the machines I took some screenshots of some of some things related to redstone that you might not know.

pressure plate
pressure plate: When stepped on it sends out a surge of power
2013-08-22_11.50.17
redstone torch: If placed next to redstone it powers that redstone forever until powered by another source of power
2013-08-22_11.50.27
redstone repeater: At some point a redstone circuit will run out of power at some point but if you place a repeater at the end of a redstone circuit it will strengthen the signal and allow it to travel farther
2013-08-22_11.50.39
redstone comparator: Comparators can detect if a item is a chest workbench furnace etc. so if there is a item in a chest and there is a comparator next to it the comparator sends out a redstone signal.
2013-08-22_11.50.46
redstone: If redstone is powered it can turn on machines like pistons or turn off machines like redstone torches
2013-08-22_11.50.54
sticky piston: When powered it extends to two blocks and can retract a block next to it or push a block next to it
2013-08-22_11.51.01
note block: If hit it makes a sound. it can make different sounds if placed on different blocks.
2013-08-22_11.51.15
hopper: It can take a item out of a chest or put one in
2013-08-22_11.51.24
dropper: Can throw a item if there is one in the dropper and it is being powered by any source of power

So these are the basic things that the following machines are made of.

The first thing that I made is called the death games randomizer2013-08-22_11.45.19

These are the materials you will need:

  • redstone
  • redstone torch
  • droppers
  • hopper
  • pressure plate
  • chest

So if anyone plays on a white listed server (the creator of the server has to invite you to the server) on minecraft you can build this and have a death games game on the server. So here’s how it works. There is a chest next to the machine and it is full of swords with people’s names on them. If anyone wants to play they put their sword in the chest that is on top. And then they step on the pressure plate that’s connected to the redstone that is coming out from the left redstone torch. Then when you step on the pressure plate it turns on the redstone which turns off the the redstone torch. When a hopper is being powered it doesn’t work so it is being powered until you step on the pressure plate and it takes the item from the sword from the chest and puts it into the dropper next to it. If someone else puts their sword in there it would do the same thing and so the dropper would choose one sword randomly and put it into the other hopper and it would be put up to the other hopper that is connected to a hopper which leads to the chest. When someone else puts their sword in and steps on the pressure plate it will put someone’s sword in the chest. What they will be able to do is if someone happens to walk by they could check the chest and see if someone’s sword was in the chest.

The game part is that there is going to be another chest with armor, a bow and a sword. They can sneak up on the person whose sword is in the chest and try to kill them. But if the person who attacks fails, they owe the person they tried to kill one diamond and vice versa.

This is only part one. There will probably be three redstone lesson posts.

If you have any suggestions to make my machines better please comment. Or you can tell me what machines you have made in Minecraft. I think I have an idea to may death games randomizer a lot better. See if you can guess what it is.

Camping!

Two days ago I got back from camping and I had a blast! 4 other families were there and all of them contained  at least 1 of my friends. The first thing I did there was play catch with one of my friends since he loves sports so much and since we were the only two families there. Then once all the families were there it was around 3:00. For dinner we had hotdogs [a tradition] and smores [another tradition] and went to bed at around 9:00.

During the night the cicadas were so loud that I could not sleep. Finally I went to sleep. The next day I was the 16th person up. At noon we decided we would go on a walk on a hike. We went on Sleepy Hollow trail first then around 5:00 a second hike took off . I wasn’t in the group .The last day was boring so i’m not going tell you about it.

Minecraft Update

Robo here I am sorry if i haven’t blogged in a while. I have a lot of things going on in my life right now. Today I am going to talk about what’s been going on in Minecraft :D. I have been building a Roman type house that I have been thinking a lot about. It’s a 20-by-6 building  so it’s a pretty large building in terms of Minecraft. Here are some pictures of the building.

I Love Rock and Roll :D

Hi – Robo here. I’m sorry I haven’t blogged in awhile. Since it is summer my dad has been planning a bunch of adventures. Today I went to the beach at Lake Michigan for the second time this week. Tomorrow I’m going bowling with one of my school friends. So that’s why I haven’t been blogging.

So anyway…today I’m going to talk about my Rock and Roll guitar camp at my music school Suzuki-Orff named after a famous German composer named Carl Orff. At camp we played in a band and we named it Das Kool. My Dad was playing the drums in the band.

Das Kool

For the show on the last day of camp we played these songs:

  • Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple
  • Misserlou
  • Wild Thing – The Troggs
  • Oye Como Va – Carlos Santana
  • Back in Black – ACDC
  • Good Riddance – Time of Your Life by Green Day

The first thing I’m going to show you are two pictures of how you hold an electric guitar and how you hold a classical guitar. Do you notice the difference of how the guitar is sitting on my leg? On the classical guitar it is in between my two legs but on the electric guitar it is rested on only one one of my legs.

Next I’m going to teach you how to play two chords and play a song for you.

Learn how to play E and A Minor chords
