Da Da Da Da Da Da Da Da Da Daaaaaaa

I can’t believe the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup! Last night I was at my friend’s house for a sleepover and we watched the game. I can tell you the whole story. The Blackhawks were down 2-1. Bryan Bickell was making a drive. He shot the puck and he scored against Tuukka Rask of the Bruins. Desperately, the Bruins tried to score another goal to make it 3-2 but Bolland scored a goal to make it 3-2 Blackhawks. Once Bolland scored my friend and I were screaming and hugging each other. And then there were 58 seconds left on the clock. Once there was 7 seconds left, my friend and I counted down to one.

A Trip to the Zoo

I wrote a spelling story and I had to use six adverbs and eight spelling words. This story is realistic fiction.

A Trip to the Zoo

When Ben woke up the next morning he remembered how much fun he had going to the zoo. Yesterday, when Ben was handing in his math homework, his teacher announced that they would be going on a field trip to Lincoln Park Zoo.

excited kids

After the announcement, everyone in the room went bezerkers. Anna Hallway started screaming at the top of her lungs, Jeremy Bonjo started dancing, and Julia Vero (well you get the point). Everyone except Ben. Ben thought it was a little over the top because all it is is just going to see animals (geez).

school bus

2 hours later, Ben stepped on the bus that smelled suspiciously like smoke, (blame the bus driver) and headed off to the zoo. Ben brought a notebook and pencils because his teacher told them they would be taking notes on the animals we saw.

But when they reached their final destination it was much larger than Ben had expected. Maybe this wasn’t going to be so bad he thought. The first animal they saw was the monkeys. They swung from branch to branch enthusiastically. Ben thought they were funny. The second animal they saw were the seals. His mom had given him 2 dollars to spend and he used those 2 dollars to buy fish for the seals. He threw the fish into the air and the seals caught the fish in their mouths and quickly ate them. Third they saw pandas. A sign told them that these were some of the only pandas on earth. One panda slowly lumbered over to some bamboo and gnawed on it.

giraffeFourth, we saw some giraffes. Ben got to touch them. Two kids fought over whether or not they should feed a giraffe a sausage. The giraffe awkwardly walked over to a tree and munched on the leaves. Last, they saw a snake. He was a diamond back rattle snake. He could snatch up a rat so fast you would miss it if you blinked. You had to keep him inside his cage because he was poisonous.

So at breakfast Ben’s mom said, “What did you do yesterday?” And Ben told her about how he went on a field trip and all of that. Though he didn’t tell her about him not wanting to go to the zoo because she was zoologist.

On Strike

This is a story I wrote back in January for spelling homework. I had to use spelling words in a story. The spelling words are bold.

On Strike

One day the number ten was walking along a sentence when he stumbled over a wrong decimal point. Forty saw him and said “four hevens sakes are you okay?” “I’m fine.” said ten. “I just hate it when kids put wrong decimals.” And the two numbers walked all across number city. Until they met ninety wheeling her bike back to her garage and then asked her, “Why are you wheeling your bike instead of riding it?” and ninety said “Oh, that, nothing much, I just ran over a wrong decimal point.”

“Really, I stumbled over a wrong decimal point!” said ten. “I just hate it when kids use wrong punctuation” and the three walked and wheeled around number city.

On two thousand thirteen ten’s dad walked in. Ten asked him why he had a bruse on his knee and he replied “I couldn’t keep my New Year’s Eve resolution by trying to be more careful on the sidewalk but today I tripped and brused my knee.”

“But pop, it isn’t our fault it’s the kid’s fault” said ten. “They keep on putting wrong decimal points.”

So, kids have you learned your lesson? If not here it is. Never put wrong decimal points!

Oh, look, now the numbers are on strike!

Mammoth Cave

This post is dedicated to Teresa in San Francisco who is wondering why I haven’t written in a long time.

For spring break I went to Mammoth Cave in Kentucky. It is the biggest cave in the world. It stretches 400 miles and is still growing. My family went there and we took a simple tour because we just came back from North Carolina (see post about Duke and UNC). One of the most interesting things about Mammoth Cave is that during the War of 1812 the British stopped ships from delivering gun powder to America so they had to make their own gun powder. The Americans mined salt peter in Mammoth Cave to make gun powder so they can use it to fight the war.

Mammoth Cave Entrance

Another interesting fact is that someone found a dead body inside the cave. The interesting thing is that he still had his organs, muscles and even some berries left in his stomach. This is able to happen because the cave preserved his body because the temperature and climate stays the same 24/7. They named him Lost John.

Duke vs. UNC-Chapel Hill

I’m torn between two sides. Guess where I went for spring break? That’s right…North Carolina.

And guess why I’m torn?

Both Duke University and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill are in North Carolina. I like both basketball teams and they are both in the NCAA March Madness tournament. I got a Duke basketball jersey for #5 (Mason Plumlee) and then I have UNC-Chapel Hill basketball t-shirt. But I when I wore the basketball jersey for Duke almost every single shot went into the basket at my basketball class. That seriously happened. I shot a 3-pointer without jumping and it went in.

I got the jersey and the shirt at the campuses but I got the UNC shirt at the bookstore. But I got the Duke jersey at a Duke shop. When I went to Red Robin near Durham for lunch wearing a Duke hat, our waitress said, “I did not see that hat!” But then I showed her my Carolina shirt and she was like, “That’s what I’m talking about!”

I also got to see where Michael Jordan played first before the Bulls. We saw the Carmichael Auditorium at UNC.

That’s all for now. I’ll write more about other parts of my road trip in another post. Hint: Mammoth Cave, KY

Minecraft Town Under Construction

I’m working on a town in Minecraft and I’ve established and hired and done all the dirty work just so you can see this. It is still in construction.

Food Court

Food Court - Minecraft Town by RoboThe first picture is my food court. It has cakes, a farm, three furnaces and one chest. Even though you can’t see them they are inside that glass. If you look closely you can see the top of the cakes. I am suspecting they are red velvet.

War Shop

IMG_20130313_200918This is my favorite shop so far. It has a defense perimeter which you can see in the bottom left corner and under that is pressure plates and if you step on them the blocks in front of it pushes up so you can not jump over it. It also has iron doors because you can’t open those. You have to use a pressure plate or a button.

Wizard Tower

Wizard TowerThis is where the mage/wizard goes to work. On the other side of the wall, there is a balcony which is where the wizard works. On that balcony is a brewing stand and cauldron filled with water. And the blue light that is coming out of the top of it I’m going to explain next.

Wizard Tower Beacon

BeaconThe blue light is a beacon that I built using iron and gold blocks. In survival mode it is very hard to make a beacon. You need to have a nether star. In order to get nether star you need to fight the wither boss. If you don’t know what a nether star is go here to the Minecraft Wiki.

Stage

Minecraft StageThe stage is where thousands of spectators come around to see amazing musicians, including me. The four boxes on the ground and the item frame with wood inside are called note blocks. When you right click on them they make a musical note. The two pieces of rock with item frames with nothing in them are the stereos.

Blacksmith Shop

Blacksmith shopThis is still under construction. I am going to finish over the weekend but when it is done it is going to have about ten furnaces, an anvil and a fireplace. And I might add something else. I am also going to build a bank.

Questions for my readers

Let me know what else you want me to build in my town. A museum? A doctor’s office? A grocery store? A playground? Other stuff?

The Bathtub Tsunami – written by me of course

I had a homework assignment to write a story using ten of my spelling words and six possessive pronouns. And I did it! My spelling words are bold in the story.

The Bathtub Tsunami

Once my mom left the bathtub running there was no turning back. At the time she was thinking about her overgrown plants outside. But then she realized that it was almost midnight and so she went to bed even though she still had work to do.

But when she woke up it was already 7:25 and she had to be at work at 7:30. She rushed out the door and got a speeding ticket for going to work at 40 miles per hour. When she came home she noticed that her plants were watered. “It’s almost like they watered themselves” she said. The moment she opened the door a giant wave of water fell on top of her.

Nearby, a baseball game that was in overtime had the final catch of the game until the wave of water had taken the ball away and took it all the way to the crowd. It was a grand slam!

Pretty soon the wave got to the Midwest and flooded a school in Illinois. The students were taking their pretests on prefixes. But because of the wave they got pushed outdoors and all of their tests got drenched and they all got Fs.

Last, the wave came to a library and soaked all of the books. The way my mom paid the people is by giving them all prepaid gift cards and returned her overdue library books to the librarian.

The End

Can you guess what my spelling strategy was for this week? Take a look at the bold words and tell me what they have in common in the blog comments.

Algebra+2x+b=….?

Today was the most complicated day of my life at school. I learned how to figure out this problem. 🙂

formula:x+y=90°

I know it makes your eyes bleed but I am going to tell you how to do it.Sadly, I have to tell you how to do it to make this blog post interesting  😦

  1. Look at this example (the answer is 67°)

Algebra

Boom! I just gave it straight to you:) 🙂

Rad Lemon Poetry (oh – and some babies too!)

Lemons are sour and so are you.

The juice makes you cry and I’m going to cry with you.

– Random poem by Robo (looks like I’m being influenced by Apollo, God of Poetry who does really bad poetry in the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan)

This video came from my friend’s blog but I’m adding a little twist to it with a funny title. His title for the post is Pucker Up! You should watch this because they have babies closing their eyes and sticking their tongues out after they eat a lemon. Who are these parents giving their babies lemons anyway?

I’m closing the poll for doughnuts on February 21 and I’m going to tell you the results so far.

Chocolate Long John was 4 votes with a percentage of 30.77% (winner so far).

Other = 3 votes
All of the above = 2 votes
Any doughnut with sprinkles = 1
Strawberry frosted = 1
Boston Creme = 1
Munchkins = 1

TOTAL VOTES = 13

That’s right, chocolate long john is winning. If you still want to vote there is one day left!
